Sheffield was named a few years ago as the first National City of Sport. This title is well earned, practically every sport has a team in the city or facilities are available for it.
The best facilities must be the Ponds Forge international swimming pool, Don Valley athletics stadium and The Sheffield Arena - home of ice hockey in the city.
One of the more popular events the city hosts is the World Snooker Championships held at the Crucible Theatre every year.
The main sport in the city is football - there are two big teams, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United. Other sports teams in the city include Sheffield Sharks (basketball), Sheffield Steelers (ice hockey), Sheffield Eagles (rugby) and the Sheffield Tigers (Speedway).
